Six common situations we work in. Pick the one that lands closest — we'll show you how we typically untangle it.

Electrician working inside an open switchboard — the kind of job where the CES paperwork sits in a notebook for days
CES paperwork lagging behind the work

CES paperwork lagging behind the work

Certificates of Electrical Safety written up on a Saturday. Notifiable work not lodged on time. Test reports for switchboard upgrades sitting on someone's phone camera and never matched to the job.

When an audit lands, the team spends two days reconstructing what actually happened across email, group chats, paper job cards and three spreadsheets.

We build CES generation into the field workflow — drafted from the job record on completion, signed digitally on the device, filed against the job and dispatched to the customer (and regulator where required) on the same day the work is done.

What we offer

Four core capabilities, applied to electrical operations

AI, automation, integrations and custom apps — built on top of the platform your electrical business already runs.

AI built into electrical workflows where it removes real work

What. Practical AI for electrical contractors — not a chatbot for the sake of it. Quote drafting from past similar jobs, automatic capture of compliance documents (CES, test reports, supplier invoices), customer enquiry triage routed to the right person, and AI-assisted estimating where assemblies and live supplier pricing are involved.

How. We integrate AI models into the workflow you already run. Whether you use Simpro, ServiceM8 or Tradify, the AI sits as a layer that reads job data, supplier documents and historical quotes — and then surfaces drafts the estimator approves, rather than generating everything from scratch.

Benefits. Quotes go out same-day rather than next-week. CES documents auto-attach to the correct job. Customer enquiries reach the right person without manual triage. We only add AI where it removes work that someone is currently doing by hand — not because it looks good in a deck.

Workflow automation across the electrical job lifecycle

What. Automation for the repetitive bits of running an electrical operation: booking confirmations, on-the-way SMS, scheduled compliance reminders, annual test & tag round generation, invoice creation on job completion, payment chase sequences and renewal nudges before contracts lapse.

How. We map your current workflow end-to-end, identify where staff are re-keying data or chasing customers manually, and build automations that run those steps in the background. Built on top of your existing job platform so nothing is replaced — only the manual middle steps disappear. Workflow automation integrated with the tools you already pay for.

Benefits. Admin team handles two to three times the job volume without growing headcount. Customers stop calling the office for status updates because the SMS already arrived. Annual test & tag and RCD testing programs run themselves on the schedule, not on someone's spreadsheet that gets out of date.

Integrations that make the platforms you already run talk to each other

What. Custom integrations between your job management (Simpro, ServiceM8, Tradify), accounting (Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks), rostering (Deputy, Employment Hero), electrical wholesaler APIs, SMS gateways, payment processors and any custom internal system.

How. We design the data flows that make sense for how electrical work actually runs: job → invoice, materials → purchase order, timesheet → payroll, customer → CRM, compliance certificate → customer portal and audit trail. Standard APIs where they exist; custom middleware and APIs where they do not.

Benefits. Data enters one system and flows where it needs to go. Materials lists from the field app become purchase orders without rekeying. Time logged on the device becomes payroll hours. CES certificates go from the field straight to the customer and the audit trail. No double entry; no spreadsheet in the middle; no Friday reconciliation.

Custom apps for the bits your job platform was never built to handle

What. Builder and tier-2 commercial client portals, multi-division reporting layers, custom CES workflows, offline field apps for switch rooms and basements, commercial estimating and tendering engines, strata and property-manager maintenance portals, AI-assisted compliance documentation — custom-built when the standard product hits its ceiling.

How. We build the custom app as a layer that sits alongside your existing job platform. Your team keeps using the tool they know; the new capability slots in as a separate web or mobile app that reads from and writes to your job data via API. Designed around the actual work — not generic templates wrapped in your logo.

Benefits. The 10–30% of your operation that was held together with spreadsheets and email starts working. Commercial clients get the portal they expect; field crews get an app that works offline in basements; the office gets reporting that answers business questions instead of platform-shipped charts that do not.

Integrations

Systems we connect for electrical contractors

Job management platforms, accounting tools, rostering, suppliers, mapping and payments — all flowing into and out of your job record.

Simpro, ServiceM8, Tradify

We extend, integrate with and customise around all three. Custom CES workflows, builder portals, multi-division reporting, supplier feeds — built on top of the platform your team already knows.

Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks

Automated invoicing, quotes, supplier bills, payroll and bank reconciliation. Job data flows directly to your accounting platform — and back — without double entry across entities and divisions.

Mapping & Routing

Google Maps, address validation, travel-time calculation, route optimisation for residential service days. Built-in trackers extended where the platform stock app falls short.

Deputy, Employment Hero

Rostering, leave management and labour-cost feeds. Apprentice supervision relationships enforced. Timesheets reconciled with jobs so payroll matches reality.

Electrical Wholesaler APIs

Live materials pricing from major wholesalers, automated purchase orders generated from job materials lists, delivery confirmations matched back to the job.

Online Payments

Stripe, Square or eWAY for in-field card payments and online invoice payment. Reconciled back to the job and the accounting system automatically.

Case Study

Custom CES workflow and builder portal on top of an existing platform

A 15-person commercial electrical contractor already running their core job management. We added a CES generation workflow, a builder client portal and a multi-division margin dashboard — without replacing the tool the team used every day. Team capacity rose 25%, invoice-to-payment time halved, CES backlog cleared inside the first month.

25% More jobs per week, same crew
50% Faster invoice-to-payment
100% Digital CES on completion
Zero Missed notifiable lodgements

We were three years into Simpro and the team knew it inside out. The problem was the CES paperwork backlog, builder requests for a portal, and reporting that could not show margin by division. We did not want to switch platforms. HELLO PEOPLE built a CES workflow, a builder portal and a margin dashboard that sit on top of Simpro. The team kept using Simpro every day; the new capability just appeared alongside it. Six months later, the CES backlog is gone, the builders are happy, and we know our profitability by job type every week.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions about electrical software

What kind of software do electrical contractors actually need?

At a minimum: job management, quoting, scheduling, a field app for techs and accounting integration. Most electrical businesses get that from Simpro, ServiceM8 or Tradify. What those tools do not cover well is the work specific to electrical — CES paperwork, AS/NZS 3760 test & tag, thermography reports, CEC accredited solar/EV documentation, multi-division reporting and builder portals. That is the layer we typically build on top.

We already use Simpro / ServiceM8 / Tradify. Do we need to switch?

No. We are not in the business of replacing software that is working. If your team already knows Simpro, ServiceM8 or Tradify, the cost of switching almost always outweighs the gain. The smarter move is to extend the platform you have — bolt on a builder portal, a custom CES workflow, multi-division dashboards or an integration the platform does not offer cleanly. That keeps your team productive and lets us focus on the 10–30% of your operation that the standard product cannot handle.

Who needs custom electrical software?

Contractors who have outgrown one of three things: their current platform's reporting (cannot see margin by job type or division), their current platform's compliance handling (CES, notifiable work, test & tag, thermography), or their current platform's integration ceiling (cannot connect cleanly to Xero/MYOB, builder portals, suppliers or AI tools). If you are stitching three tools together with spreadsheets and email, that is the signal.

What changes when the software is built around how electrical work actually runs?

Quotes go out same-day instead of next-week. Field techs stop calling the office for site details. CES paperwork is generated on completion rather than written up on a Saturday. Invoices flow to Xero the moment the job closes, not days later. Apprentice supervision is enforced at scheduling, not discovered after a near-miss. Reporting shows margin by job type in real time. Customers and auditors get certificates in seconds, not days.

How does this work with our existing Simpro / ServiceM8 / Tradify?

We integrate with the platform's API and build the extension as a separate layer that reads from and writes to the platform. Your team keeps using the tool they know; the new functionality (a builder portal, a custom dashboard, a compliance workflow, an AI quote assistant) sits alongside. Data stays in one source of truth — your job management platform — with our layer extending it.

Do we need a custom mobile app, or is the platform's app enough?

The platform's app is usually enough for service work — taking job updates, capturing photos, logging time. Custom mobile makes sense when the field workflow has electrical-specific requirements: CES generation on completion, Bluetooth test & tag instrument integration, offline operation in switch rooms and basements, or in-field commercial tendering. We often add a thin custom field app that talks to your existing platform, rather than replacing the platform's app outright.

Can you connect Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks?

Yes. Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks integration are standard. Multi-entity contractors with separate ABNs for residential, commercial and solar divisions are supported cleanly — revenue, GST and payroll split per entity without manual rekeying.

Can AI help with quoting, compliance or admin?

Yes, where the data supports it. AI automation can pre-fill quotes from past similar jobs, flag projects at risk of going over budget, summarise long compliance documents for the estimator and triage customer enquiries into the right job folder. We only add AI where it removes real work — not because it sounds good in a brochure.

How are projects priced?

Fixed-price after a 15-minute scoping call followed by a deeper requirements session. You know the cost before any code is written. We deliver in stages so you see progress early and start using the highest-value piece while later modules are still being built. No hourly billing that drifts; no surprises at the end.
