Why does Odoo need a separate Xero integration if it has its own accounting module?
Odoo accounting works well operationally, but many AU accountants and bookkeepers are Xero-trained and prefer Xero for BAS lodgement, bank feeds and end-of-year. Keeping Xero as the statutory ledger while Odoo runs sales, purchasing and inventory is a common and sensible split. The integration keeps both systems accurate without double-entry.
Does Odoo Community support AU STP Phase 2 payroll out of the box?
No. Odoo Community's AU localisation does not include STP Phase 2 reporting. Odoo Enterprise has a localised payroll module but compliance currency varies with version. The safest approach for most AU SMBs is to keep payroll in a dedicated AU payroll system (Xero Payroll, Employment Hero, KeyPay/Wage Easy) and sync headcount and leave from Odoo into it. We build exactly that bridge.
What Odoo versions do you work with?
Odoo 14 through 18, both Community and Enterprise. We work in the version you are on and, if you are upgrading, we scope the custom module delta between versions before any work starts. Upgrade migrations from v14 or v15 to v17/v18 are a significant portion of our Odoo work right now.
We have custom Odoo modules that nobody fully understands. Can you help?
Yes. We start with an audit: read the module code, document what it does, map any undocumented business logic, and identify what breaks on the target version. We then quote a fixed price to re-write, clean up, or replace. Most custom modules from earlier Odoo versions can be modernised to OWL / v17 patterns in a 2–6 week engagement depending on complexity.
How long does a typical Odoo to Xero integration take?
A focused Odoo to Xero integration covering invoices, bills, payments, credit notes, GST mapping and bank reconciliation typically takes 3–5 weeks. If you also need payroll bridging, ecommerce sync or CRM integration, add 2–4 weeks per system. We run sprints with weekly demos so you see working software throughout.
How is this different from an Odoo Xero connector app on the marketplace?
Marketplace connectors handle the straightforward case well and we'll say so honestly if yours fits. Custom development is the right call when (a) your GST codes, cost centres or clearing accounts don't map cleanly to defaults, (b) you have custom Odoo modules the connector doesn't know about, (c) per-sync fees are climbing, or (d) you need the integration to survive an Odoo version upgrade without renegotiating a SaaS subscription.
Do you build new Odoo modules or only integrate Odoo with external systems?
Both. Integration work (Odoo to Xero, Shopify, HubSpot, etc.) and custom module development (new Odoo apps, extending existing modules, OWL front-end components) are both in scope. Many projects involve both: build a custom Odoo module to capture data that doesn't exist in standard Odoo, then integrate that data to an external system.
