Before you book the scoping call
Will we lose any history when we migrate from MYOB to Xero?
No. Full historical migration is standard — contacts, invoices, bills, payments, journals, attachments and audit trail. Your accountant still has the comparison data for prior years. The only thing that does not migrate cleanly is certain MYOB-specific report formats; we rebuild Xero equivalents instead.
What about payroll if we're mid-financial-year?
Mid-year payroll migration is the trickiest part of any MYOB-to-Xero project — and it's the first thing we plan around. The cleanest cutover dates are start-of-quarter or start-of-financial-year. If a mid-year cutover is unavoidable we run Xero Payroll and final MYOB pays in parallel for a short period with proper YTD bring-over so STP filings stay clean.
How much does a MYOB to Xero migration cost?
Fixed-price after a 15-minute scoping call and a short discovery session. A standard single-entity migration (AccountRight or Essentials) runs 3 weeks; a multi-entity or complex inventory migration runs 4–5 weeks. MYOB Exo and very large historical datasets run 5–8 weeks. The cost is known before any data moves — no hourly billing that drifts.
What if something goes wrong mid-migration?
MYOB stays as your live system throughout the entire migration. Parallel-run means both systems are reconciling the same transactions for at least a week before cutover. If something doesn't line up, we stop the cutover and fix it in the sandbox — MYOB is still live, no rollback needed. Blind cutover risk is zero by design.
How do you handle multi-entity MYOB setups?
Multi-entity (multiple companies, intercompany trading) is a common pattern. Each MYOB company file maps to its own Xero organisation. We model the intercompany relationships at the start so consolidated reporting still works after cutover. Slightly more complex; a few extra days on the timeline.
Can you do the reverse — Xero to MYOB migration?
Yes. The same project structure applies in reverse — pre-cutover audit, sandbox build, parallel-run, cutover. Reverse migrations are less common than MYOB→Xero but we run them when a business has decided MYOB is the better fit for their reporting or ATO obligations.
What about our bookkeeper, accountant or BAS agent?
They're involved from day one. The migration runs as a joint project — they keep doing BAS, end-of-month and reconciliation while we handle the technical migration. If they're not already a Xero advisor, we cover the platform basics. Their familiarity with your chart of accounts and tax setup is critical to a clean cutover.
What if we want to keep MYOB and just integrate it with Xero or other systems?
That's a different project — MYOB ↔ Xero (or MYOB ↔ ServiceM8, etc.) integration rather than migration. We do those too. The scoping call covers which approach makes more sense for your situation; we won't push a migration if integration is the right call.
