Six Dynamics NAV migration capabilities
From the first NAV database extract through row-by-row reconciliation against your last NAV EOFY, to the cutover landed on a clean financial boundary with industry-vertical configuration validated by your domain users — built so your finance and operations teams trust the new system from day one.
-
NAV → Business Central
Business Central is the official Microsoft successor to Dynamics NAV — same architecture, cloud-native, lower TCO. Chart of accounts maps to BC dimensions, customer and vendor records migrate with full AR/AP history, open sales and purchase orders carry over, inventory and item records preserved. The natural path for most NAV customers.
- NAV COA → BC dimensions
- Customer · vendor · AR / AP history
- Open orders · inventory · items
-
NAV → Dynamics 365 F&O
For larger NAV installations that need the heavier Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations tier — advanced manufacturing, multi-subsidiary at scale, sophisticated field-ops and WMS. Re-designed for D365 F&O architecture, not lifted. Best when you are already heavy on Power BI, Azure, and Entra ID.
- Multi-subsidiary at scale
- Advanced manufacturing · WMS
- Re-designed · not lifted
-
NAV → NetSuite
The vendor-consolidation path — NAV to NetSuite OneWorld for multi-subsidiary AU/NZ + global groups, or when the parent entity is already on NetSuite. Chart of accounts, customer/vendor, open transactions and inventory all migrated. Clean break from the Microsoft ecosystem.
- NetSuite OneWorld multi-subsidiary
- Group consolidation play
- Leaves Microsoft ecosystem
-
NAV → Xero / MYOB
Right-size path for businesses where NAV was over-scoped. NAV core finance migrated to Xero or MYOB AccountRight. Inventory and job-costing handled by a connected app (Cin7, Unleashed, Simpro) or custom-built. Lower ongoing cost, faster project, simpler compliance.
- Downsize to Xero / MYOB
- Connected inventory or job-costing app
- Faster project · lower TCO
-
Data Migration & Reconciliation
Every NAV module extracted with row-by-row reconciliation. GL transactions, AR/AP detail, customers, vendors, items, inventory, sales orders, purchase orders, invoices, warehouse records, chart of accounts, general ledger. Numbers reconciled against your last NAV EOFY before sign-off.
- GL · AR · AP · inventory · orders
- Chart of accounts · invoices
- Reconciled to last NAV EOFY
-
Industry Vertical Migration
Manufacturing, mining, construction, distribution and wholesale NAV modules — re-implemented in the target system's native features (BC Manufacturing, D365 F&O industry pre-configs, NetSuite Advanced Manufacturing) or as configured extensions. NAV ISV add-ons mapped or replaced consciously.
- Manufacturing · mining · construction
- Distribution · wholesale · WMS
- ISV add-ons mapped or replaced
A Dynamics NAV migration project, end to end
Three stages. Parallel-run with daily reconciliation against live NAV. Cutover on a financial-year or quarter boundary. NAV stays read-only as a safety net. Delivered personally by the founder.
-
Week 0
Dynamics NAV Audit
15-minute scoping call. We map the NAV version, modules in use, customisation depth (C/AL code, AL extensions, ISV add-ons), entities, currencies, data size, target system options and budget. Fixed-price quote inside 48 hours.
-
Weeks 1–N
Build & Parallel-Run
Two-week sprints with weekly demos. Migration scripts extract from NAV (data, configuration, custom field metadata); target system configured in parallel. Industry-vertical configurations validated by domain users. Reconciliation reports each sprint against live NAV.
-
Cutover
End-of-Quarter Cutover
Cutover landed on a clean financial boundary (end-of-month / end-of-quarter / EOFY). NAV stays read-only for one financial year as audit safety. STP / BAS / multi-entity reporting continuity tested. 30 days post-cutover support included.
Before you book the scoping call
How much does a Dynamics NAV migration cost?
Fixed-price after a 15-minute scoping call and a short discovery session. A focused NAV to Business Central migration (single entity, vanilla modules, light customisations) runs in the mid-tens-of-thousands over 10–16 weeks. A multi-entity NAV to BC or NetSuite migration with C/AL customisations and ISV add-ons is a larger engagement. Enterprise NAV with heavy customisations, 5+ legal entities and complex industry modules sits higher again. You receive a fixed price before any data is touched — no per-hour billing that climbs as the project drags.
How long does a Dynamics NAV migration take?
A right-sized single-entity NAV to Business Central with vanilla modules runs 10–16 weeks. A standard multi-entity NAV to BC with C/AL customisations and 2–3 ISV add-ons runs 16–28 weeks. An enterprise NAV with industry vertical modules (manufacturing, mining, construction) and many integrations runs 6–12 months. Cutover always lands on a financial-year or quarter boundary so reporting stays clean.
Is Business Central really the right successor to Dynamics NAV?
For most NAV customers, yes. Business Central is the official Microsoft successor — structurally the same product, cloud-native, and the platform Microsoft is actively investing in. D365 Finance & Operations is right only when you genuinely need the heavier tier (advanced manufacturing at scale, complex multi-subsidiary). NetSuite suits consolidation plays or businesses leaving the Microsoft ecosystem. Xero/MYOB suit businesses where NAV was over-scoped. The scoping call covers all options honestly.
What happens to our NAV C/AL and AL customisations?
Audited carefully. We document every customisation — often uncovering ones the current team has forgotten — and split into three buckets: (1) re-implement as a proper BC extension or D365 extension, (2) replace with native target-system functionality, (3) retire because the underlying business need has changed. Nothing is silently dropped. ISV add-ons are mapped to target-system equivalents or replaced consciously.
Which NAV data modules do you migrate?
Chart of accounts, general ledger transactions, AR/AP open items and history, customer and supplier records, inventory and item records, sales orders, purchase orders, invoices, warehouse data, fixed assets and payroll history. In practice we ask which years need to be queryable live vs archived — the Australian Tax Office requires 5 years of records, so we always migrate enough to satisfy that and the next audit.
Do you handle NAV migrations for manufacturing, mining, construction and distribution?
Yes. NAV manufacturing modules map to Business Central Manufacturing or D365 F&O Advanced Manufacturing for heavier needs. Mining and field-operations modules (common in WA and QLD resource sector NAV installations) carry to D365 F&O or D365 Field Service. Construction project-costing re-implemented in BC Jobs module plus extensions. Distribution and wholesale warehouse modules handled — WMS carried to the target system or replaced with a specialist connected app.
We have Navision (older NAV) — does version matter?
Yes and no. Older Navision versions (NAV 2009, NAV 2013, NAV 2015) need more custom extraction work because the Microsoft migration tooling is oriented toward NAV 2017+ and AL extensions. We have the extraction patterns for older NAV versions. The core migration approach is the same — audit, extract, reconcile, build in target, parallel-run, cutover — but the extraction layer takes more effort on older versions.
Do we own the migration code? What happens to NAV after cutover?
Yes — migration scripts, reconciliation reports, target-system configurations, custom extensions and deployment scripts are all yours in your GitHub or Azure DevOps from day one. NAV stays installed read-only for one financial year as audit safety — the auditor can still pull source data when needed. After that, exported archives are kept indefinitely. Target system hosting is yours (Business Central is your Microsoft tenant; NetSuite is your NetSuite account).
